Rock Climbing Montague Pass

The Montague Pass crag is one of the few crags in the area and probably the best bolted crag open to the general public. It is easily accessed by car and a stone throw’s walk. There are two sections, one on either side of the pass, the upper one is approached from the bottom and the other via a short abseil.

For the upper crag walk about 50m up the pass to where you can traverse up the slopes on the right to the base of the cliffs. Look for the bolted routes spread out along this cliff line. You can traverse along this cliff to the right and around the corner to the outcrop of rock visible from the carpark. There are another two routes on this rock outcrop, one on the edge and one around the corner leading up to a small tree.
For the lower crag walk about 160m down the pass and climb over the barrier wall and walk down the short slope to the top of the crag. Abseil down this cliff to the base of the climb.

Stats: Bolted sports routes, intermediate, easy approach

Grade: 17-21 SA, not ideal for beginners.
