This is a beautiful short walk mere minutes from town, ideal for an afternoon stroll through the forest and fynbos down to the beach.
If you’re on holiday in Knysna and have a morning free, this is a wonderful scenic route to walk. However, there are steep hills and descents so please take note of that. This delightful route starts at the signpost near the tennis courts. Pass under the subway, issue your own permit and enjoy the scenery. The path leads to a secluded bay with sea pebbles in the most beautiful hues. Two fresh water streams empty their contents into the sea here. Lookout for the ‘boiling point’ of the first one under a huge rock during low tide. Fishing and picnics are not permitted. There is a narrow waterfall along the way which flows from time to time. If you don’t make too much noise you are bound to see bushbuck and numerous birds. The trail is well established and sign posted.
Distance: 5km, there-and-back, shorter options available.
Difficulty: Moderate to hard, quite a steep hill on the way back from the beach.
Permits/Costs: Self issue permit, no costs.
Directions: Travel down George Rex drive in the direction of The Heads, turn left in Wilson Road and follow the Pezula/Sparrebosch signposts at the traffic circle. Once in the Pezula Estate be on the lookout for parking to your left near the swimming pool / tennis courts. Please note that the speed limit is 40kph.
