Pack a picnic basket, bring the kids and spend a lovely day in the heart of nature. This is a real fairy tale hike, and if the little ones listen carefully they can hear a conversation between the elves and the fairies.
The trail is 5km in length, initially follows the Duiwe River and is very easy going except for the optional climb to a viewpoint. The stream is crossed via a wooden bridge and stepping stones.
Plants on the route include Wild Grape which have the most vivid colours in autumn and tender new shoots in spring. Other plants include Sagewood and Num-num. Do make time to stop and check out some of the very interesting names which have been attached to the trees.
You may encounter Cape Robin on the trail. Listen for their endearing songs, especially in the late afternoon. Seeing a Knysna Lourie in flight is always special and Cape Batises are a common sight. If you move cautiously, they will allow you to come real close to them and watch their activity in the shrubs.
The trail ends at the pool and waterfall where you must be aware of slippery rocks. Follow the path back the way you came.
