Kayaking Nature’s Valley

The serene Nature’s Valley is one of the most scenic places to canoe in the Garden Route area. From the great birding opportunities of the Groot River to the open plains of the lagoon area. The shallows in the lagoon are a great place for the kids to play and the water is often lukewarm in summer. The lagoon mouth is normally closed from the sea side, but if it is open be careful of currents.

Other: We recommend always wearing PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) even when paddling on the lagoon. Wear a hat and sunscreen as well, bearing in mind that the reflection off the water can also burn you.

Grootrivier Estuary

The estuary in Nature’s Valley is a great place to explore by kayak. On a calm day and when the river mouth is closed to the sea as it often is, this estuary offers mirror-like reflection of the beautiful surroundings. When the mouth is open to the sea please be careful of currents near the mouth as these can pull you towards the open sea.

The Grootrivier river can be explore for quite a distance upstream as well.
